Open .vob files online
To open a .vob file in your browser, press Open editor on the video editor, then bring your file into the project from inside the editor. On 2026-10-31 we opened a 4-second DVD-style .vob made with ffmpeg: 720 x 480 MPEG-2 video at 29.97 fps with AC-3 stereo sound. It showed in the source monitor with the right picture, and the Info panel read MPEG-2 Video (Main@Main) and 48000 Hz, 2 ch, AC-3. We cut the clip to 2 seconds in a new sequence and exported it with the default H.264 setting. The exported .mp4 was a valid 720 x 480 H.264 file with AAC sound, 2.0 seconds long; the colors matched the source and the audio level was the same. You cannot save a .vob: the Format list has H.264, ProRes, DNxHR, APV and QuickTime Motion JPEG, but no MPEG-2 or VOB. We made our own single test file, not a ripped disc, so menus, subtitles, multiple audio tracks, copy-protected DVDs and files split across VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB and so on are Not tested yet. Nothing is uploaded and there is no sign-up.

| Listed by the engine | Listed in docs | MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 video, AC-3 and MP2 audio, and MPEG program streams (DVD) are listed as imported. The project does not name the .vob extension. Export is MP4, MOV, ProRes, DNxHR and similar, not MPEG-2. |
| Opened a .vob file | Works | A 4-second 720 x 480 .vob (MPEG-2 video and AC-3 stereo, written with ffmpeg's vob muxer) was added to the project. The Info panel read it as a movie, 29.97 fps, 720 x 480, MPEG-2 Video (Main@Main), 48000 Hz 2 ch AC-3, 4 seconds. Double-clicking it showed the test pattern in the source monitor with the timecode burned into the picture. |
| Edited it | Works | We made a new sequence from the clip (4:00) and cut it at 2 seconds, deleting the second half. The sequence became 2:00 long. |
| Exported as H.264 MP4 | Works | Export with the default H.264 setting gave a 596 KB .mp4. ffprobe read it as MP4 with H.264 High 720 x 480 at 29.97 fps (60 frames, 2.00 s) and AAC stereo at 48 kHz. A frame at 1 second matched the source: sampled bar colors were within 2 levels, and the AAC audio level matched the source AC-3 (about -24.1 dB RMS in both). |
| Saved as .vob or MPEG-2 | Not supported | The Format list offers H.264, H.265 (greyed out), AV1 (greyed out), Apple ProRes, Avid DNxHR, APV and QuickTime (Motion JPEG). There is no MPEG-2 or VOB output. |
| Import button with a file chooser | Not tested yet | In our automated browser we added the file by dropping it into the editor. The Import page file picker was not checked by hand. |
| Real DVD files (menus, subtitles, several audio tracks, split VOBs, copy protection) | Not tested yet | Not tested. Our file was a single clean stream made with ffmpeg, not a file from a disc. |
| Phone screen (390 px wide) | Not tested yet | Not tested for this format. |
